Alterations and additions to a hillside bungalow to overcome problems of access and internal planning. The design proposes removal of an internal spiral stair and a new stair at the exterior, freeing the interior to add a bathroom and taking better advantage of views to the landscape. The addition is a timber structure with a steel and timber stair, continuing the expression of the existing house and making possible construction on a site with adverse soil conditions.
