Competition, awarded: first commendation
This was a competition organized by the Uruguayan government and financed by the United Nations. The research station is a centre for research,and training on environmental issues regarding the world heritage area where the station is located. The proposal is a series of pavilions connected to the existing building and to each other partially by a lightweight structure. Potentialy two pavillions for the offices and labs oriented to provide southern light to the labs, an entertainment pavillion along the river to enjoy the views, and a wharf giving access to the river. The building technology is developed from local traditional construction systems. The roof and some of the walls are thatched using the local rushes, and masonry is generally used along the southern walls.
