Alterations and additions to a derelict inner city terrace house comprising a new roof terrace and studio, modifications to the ground and first floors, and the introduction of a light well. The Development Application sought and approved gained an increase in Floor Space Ratio substantially beyond that permitted by the City of Sydney Council, and also an increase in height above the permitted limit. Panoramic northward views to the city existed from the derelict roof of the original house; a disused right-of-way passed through the house; a cross-wise stairway divided the dark interior of the old house. A new stairway in the location of the right-of-way connects the new ground level living, kitchen, bathroom and courtyard areas with the second level bedroom, ensuite and study. An existing stair leads from the second level to the rooftop studio and terrace. The lightwell connects all three levels.
